Young drivers 'can lower their motor insurance premiums'
Posted :13-09-2007
There are a number of ways in which younger motorists can reduce their car insurance premiums, according to a leading insurer.
While young drivers are always subject to higher premiums, there are several means by which costs can be minimised, Direct Line stated.
A spokesperson for the company notes that participation in the Pass Plus scheme and driving a smaller vehicle are ways to lower the costs of running a car, while older vehicles and those with larger engines were found to bump up premium costs.
Motor insurance costs can be cut by up to 35 per cent by taking part in the Pass Plus scheme, which consists of six one-hour sessions and does not require another driving examination.
"From a financial point of view it makes sense, because the average premium for a young male driver is going to be around the £2,000 mark, so if you divide that by three, you are saving around £600," she added.
March 2007 statistics from the Department for Transport indicated that road traffic was an estimated one per cent higher than the year ending March 2006.
