New Highway Code launched
Posted :28-09-2007
The Highway Code has undergone its first revision in eight years to offer up-to-date road rules and advice, in news that may be of interest to car insurance customers.
Also added is a new Safety Code for Novice Drivers, to help and advise new motorists in their first couple of months behind the wheel.
Road safety minister Jim Fitzpatrick commented that the Highway Code "is for life" and is not just a tool to help motorists pass their driving tests.
He noted that the booklet is "crucial" for all users of the road, including drivers, motorcyclists, horse riders, cyclists and pedestrians.
"We know that the first few months after passing your driving test can be a risky time. This is reflected in the latest Code which offers practical safety advice and reminders of the rules new drivers must abide by," he added.
Upon completion of a driving test, one method for reducing car insurance premiums is to take part in the Pass Plus scheme, which increases drivers' experience in a range of different areas.
