Young drivers 'should study after passing their test' and reduce car insurance

Young road-users should continue to better their skills behind the wheel after they pass their test - a practice which may also result in cheaper car insurance premiums - a leading insurer has recommended today.
Norwich Union advised that post-test schemes - such as Pass Plus - could result in younger drivers improving their road safety as well as lowering the price they pay for car insurance.
A spokesperson for the company recommended "ongoing and regular" training for new drivers, noting that a range of insurers offer a discount to motorists that have undergone additional driving guidance.
The Pass Plus scheme organisers state that new drivers are more likely to have an accident in the first two years of passing their test than at any other stage in their life behind the wheel.
March 2007 figures from the Department for Transport stated that road causalities were down four per cent but that fatal or seriously injured casualties were unchanged in comparison to the year-long period ending March 2006.
