Staying safe before and after you pass your driving test
Posted :04-10-2007
Car insurance provider esure has stated today that recent research carried out by road safety charity Brake has highlighted the need for an increase in school-based motorist safety education.
Brake's research indicated that some 60 per cent of young drivers admit to travelling at illegal, life-threatening speeds.
Head of risk and underwriting for the car insurance provider Mike Pickard stated that the figures indicated a "worrying trend" in the attitudes of young road-users towards safety when driving.
"The government must take steps to encourage greater education within schools to better prepare young drivers before they take to the roads," he said.
"Only by dramatically improving the education initiatives targeting this group will we be successful in changing the attitudes of young people and fostering a culture of responsible driving," Mr Pickard concluded.
A spokesperson from Norwich Union stated yesterday that young drivers should participate in ongoing training after their test to increase their road safety skills.
