Speeding motorists face fines, penalty points and higher car insurance premiums
Posted :10-10-2007
Motorists risking both car insurance claims and serious injury or death by speeding were caught by police speed checks and fined last week, it has been reported.
Council officers and police in Finchampstead caught 49 drivers exceeding the 30 mph speed limit and gave them £60 fines along with three penalty points on their licenses, according to the Bracknell News.
The fastest speed recorded was 46 mph.
PC Julian Weal, spokesman for the Three Mile Cross roads policing department, told the publication: "Although the speed limit on these roads is 30mph we've had a number of collisions resulting in injury in the past three years."
He added that the measures being taken would hopefully result in the area becoming safer for road users.
The government recently issued a report stating that road-users are three times more likely to die in an accident on a rural road than an urban one.
