Highway Code 'a must for drivers' - including car insurance customers

The revised version of the Highway Code - knowledge of which may result in increased road safety and lower car insurance premiums - has been welcomed by members of Wigan's Road Safety Forum.

Councillor David Molyneux, told the Wigan News that "everyone" needs to see the Highway Code due to it containing essential information for road-users other than drivers, such as cyclists and pedestrians.

"And with new information on emissions, smoking in vehicles that are workplaces and using satnav systems, it has come along at the right time," he added.

Mr Molyneux also mentioned a staged vehicle crash at a recent automotive event, where an accident involving mobile phone misuse and drink-driving led to a dramatic incident to emphasise the dangers of poor driving, the publication asserts.

Recent research by tyre safety organisation TyreSafe indicated that some 21 per cent of women risk a claim on their car insurance through inadequate knowledge of their tyre pressure.
