Drivers risking car insurance claims through bad driving 'given educational choice'
Posted :15-10-2007
Drivers who risk car insurance claims as well as endangering the lives of other road-users by breaking road laws are to be given a choice of education of punishment, it has been reported.
Throughout October, motorists caught speeding will be allowed to either accept the traditional three penalty points and £60 fine, or to attend a course on road safety.
Cabinet minister for transportation Valerie Letheren stated that authorities will continue to raise awareness of safety behind the wheel through discourse with drivers.
"By carrying out these roadside checks we hope to make a difference to the way people think before driving each day," she added.
The scheme is being run by Buckinghamshire county council in conjunction with officers from the Thames Valley Safer Roads Partnership.
A government study recently indicated that road-users are three times more likely to be killed in an accident on a rural road than one in a built-up area.
