Motorists 'in favour of speed cameras'
Posted :22-10-2007
A survey has suggested that people are in favour of speed cameras due to their ability to reduce motorists' speeds, which can save lives and reduce car insurance premiums.
Carried out by Hertfordshire county council, the study indicates that more than eight out of ten respondents (81 per cent) agreed that road cameras encourage people to drive within speed restrictions.
A larger percentage (83 per cent) stated that they believe that keeping within the speed limit is important in the reduction of accidents - which may also reduce the cost of motorists' car insurance renewal costs.
Some 52 per cent said they believed the primary aim of such cameras is to reduce accidents and 63 per cent supported the use of them as a means to reducing causalities, the Gazette reports.
It was recently reported that motorists caught speeding this month will face the option of attending a road safety course run by Buckinghamshire county council and the Thames Valley Safer Roads Partnership as well as the more traditional fine and points penalty.
