Car insurance claims drive forward as clocks go back
Posted :24-10-2007
The number of claims made by Brits on policies such as home and car insurance increases significantly in the week following the end of British Summer Time (BST).
New research by Churchill has suggested that as the clocks go back an hour on October 28th, the number of car insurance claims made following collisions increases by some 15 per cent as motorists attempt to carry out their usual driving habits in darker conditions.
Other events that follow the end of BST also contribute to an increase in the number of insurance claims made by consumers.
Halloween, for example, is far more trick than treat, as claims increase by some 150 per cent due to malicious destruction in homes.
The amount of car-related damage claims are also doubled in All Hallows Eve.
Simon Warsop, head of statistics at Norwich Union, commented: "Extra caution behind the wheel and some common sense tips for home security and safety will help ensure you enjoy everything the season has to offer."
Bonfire night is also a poor time for homes, as Churchill recently noted that damage caused by fireworks to properties costs, on average, £307 to put right.
