Car insurance fronting 'can take some explaining'
Posted :25-10-2007
Consumers who front their car insurance may have their work cut out for them if a claim has to be made.
Fronting - when an individual states that they are the main driver of a car, when a younger person is predominantly behind the wheel to lower premiums - can be hard offence to talk one's way out of.
Such was the opinion of lead insurance ombudsman at the Financial Ombudsman Service, Peter Hinchcliffe, when he recently spoke on BBC Radio 4's Money Box show.
"This is a question of the evidence, so if you are the parent and you have said you are the main driver and the car has been in an accident, or stolen, at your son or daughter's university, you have got a lot of work to do to explain how that has come about," he said.
It was recently noted by the Association of British Insurers that over £1 million of insurance fraud is uncovered by providers every day.
