Motorists given crime prevention advice
Posted :29-10-2007
Road-users have been advised by police to make sure their vehicles are secure, following a number of thefts.
North-west Yorkshire police commented that there has been an increase in the number of older vehicles stolen in recent months and cars over ten years of age have been identified as a "main target".
However, Detective Inspector Fran Naughton stated that it is important that vehicle security is taken seriously regardless of a vehicle's age, advice which may result in reduced numbers of car insurance claims being made.
"Ensure [your] vehicle is locked when unattended and that you don't leave any of your property out on show. If your car is fitted with an alarm ensure that it is set when leaving your vehicle," the police officer advised.
Insurer Churchill recently noted that the number of claims made by Britons on policies such as car insurance increases significantly in the period directly after the end of British Summer Time.
