Car insurance regulation changes 'could affect drivers'
Posted :30-10-2007
Alterations in car insurance rules due to come into effect from next year could impact upon thousands of innocent drivers.
From January 1st 2008, the amount of time that car insurance providers have to register customers' details on the Motor Insurance Database will be halved, to seven days, AA Insurance notes.
In light of the new rule, AA Insurance advises consumers to ensure that car insurance is renewed or a new policy is purchased before existing cover expires, not to drive if a payment is missed and a new policy has yet to be arranged and to consider automatic renewal.
John Close, of insurer relations at the firm, notes: "Customers can no longer delay renewing their insurance, even by a day."
It was recently reported by insurer LV= that a tired motorist has slower reaction times and decreased ability to concentrate, increasing the likelihood of a crash and the need to claim on a car insurance policy.
