Providers view car insurance following offences 'in different ways'
Posted :05-11-2007
Car insurance renewal costs are approached in different ways by providers, the AA stated recently.
The financial services firm noted that some companies will ignore a first offence, while some will increase premiums.
Public relations manager for the AA Ian Crowder stated that no car insurance company, however, would ignore a second offence.
"If you've got a dangerous driving conviction, they will significantly increase your premium", he added.
Mr Crowder noted that the existing provider of insurance for a driver will probably stick with them following an offence, but if consumers were trying to switch, they may find that some firms may prefer not to give a quote.
He concluded by stating that this was particularly likely to happen if a road-user has a conviction for driving without due care and attention.
The most recent figures from the Home Office indicated that the number of motoring offences dealt with during 2003-04 was some 13.5 million, which is the largest number to date.
