Car insurance claims 'at their peak in November'

November is the highest month which sees the most motoring accidents, new figures from car insurance provider esure indicate.

With the increased likelihood of a car collision in coming weeks, the firm has issued road users with advice on what to do if an accident occurs.

Mike Pickard, head of risk and underwriting at the insurer, commented: "As more wintry weather affects driving conditions and daylight hours shrink this month, the likelihood of being involved in a car accident is at its peak. Being prepared for the unexpected is crucial."

The firm has stated that drivers should make sure they exchange insurance details with the other motorist as seven per cent of road users forget to do this.

Other advice includes not continuing driving as shock can impair a driver's ability to operate a vehicle safely and taking photos to record the scene of the accident.

Recent figures from Direct Line suggest that almost a quarter of motorists that have passed their test in the past two years have had a crash due to their lack of skills.
