Animals prevent drivers from getting in a flap over insurance
Posted :13-11-2007
Motorists may be able to thank feathered road-users for a reduction in their car insurance claims. Ann Martin from Dorset has trained a flock of ducks and geese to hang around the side of the road by her house during the morning and evening rush hours as she noticed that drivers slowed down and drove more carefully while they were near the animals. Ms Martin told the Metro: "Drivers use the village as a rat-run - it's like the M1 here at rush hour. The sight of ducks seems to be the only thing that gets them to slow down." She explained that she used to feed the flock on a regular basis, so much so that if she was late then the animals would come to the road to be fed. The reduction in speed may help hurried drivers avoid crashing into one another on the rural road, thus lessening the likelihood of having to make a car insurance claim. Motorists may welcome any opportunity to reduce their need to make a car insurance claim as it was recently reported by esure that November is the peak month for motoring claims.
