Poor parking 'could result in car insurance claims'
Posted :21-11-2007
Taking care while parking can be beneficial to those looking to save money on car insurance and reduce the depreciation of their vehicle, it has been suggested.
A spokesman for GEM Motoring Assist (GEM) stated that a significant number of insurance claims stem from accidents in car parks and these can be reduced with more careful parking.
David Williams, chief executive of GEM, said: "We have seen research that 30 to 35 per cent of company car insurance claims arise from parking incidents."
He added that the majority of people fail to report minor damage caused by parked vehicles or shopping trolleys and that considerate parking was also important for safety where children are involved.
GEM was established in 1932 and offers a membership service that gives advice on road safety and accident prevention. Members also receive a regular magazine as well as advice on cheaper car insurance and auto services.
