Car insurance risk for Land Rover drivers
Posted :21-11-2007
A number of Land Rover thefts in the south Cumbria could increase car insurance premiums in the rural area.
Several robberies have led to warnings that people need to step-up security levels on the vehicles to prevent their vehicles being targeted by opportunist thieves, according to the North West Evening Mail.
The newspaper reports that over the space of a fortnight last month four thefts involving Land Rovers were reported, with one vehicle recovered in Liverpool sporting new plates and a new chassis and engine number.
It is thought that the robberies will draw attention to the fact that these are much sought after vehicles that require adequate car insurance. Inspector Ian Carruthers of Kendal police said that it was important to make sure vehicles are properly protected.
"People also need to be aware that there are serious insurance implications to leaving their vehicles unsecured, as most insurers expect motorists to at least follow basic security guidelines," he said.
Last week, police in Preston issued a warning to drivers that they were leaving themselves open to thieves by leaving valuable items such as mobile phones and mp3 players on display.
