Taxiing parents 'risk car insurance claims'
Posted :27-11-2007
British parents spend up to 22 days a year driving their kids to a range of activities, recent figures from Citi and Shell show.
Years of taxiing children to school, social events and other after-school activities result in parents spending nearly a year of their lives chauffeuring their offspring around.
More than a third (37 per cent) of respondents stated that they are short of sleep due to ferrying their children from place to place.
Sleep deprivation may result in an increased risk of car insurance claims as parents may no longer be fully alert when they are behind the wheel.
Nana Banerjee, head of cards at Citi, comments: "The research highlights the crucial role parents play in maintaining their children's social lives and the sacrifices parents make so that their children have a safe and reliable means of transport."
Recent research by Zurich suggested that thousands of British parents unwittingly commit car insurance fraud by insuring a car in their own name while their child is the principle driver.
