'Brutish' men risk car insurance claims
Posted :28-11-2007
Men are more likely to damage their vehicles while working under the bonnet - and therefore risk making a claim on their car insurance - than their female counterparts, according to a recent study by car care firm.
Research by Comma suggested that six out of ten women would ask for help if they were having trouble moving a jammed or rusty bolt, whereas four out of ten men would resort to brute force.
A further 44 per cent of males would put all their weight on a spanner to try and move it and another six per cent would kick it before seeking aid, reports website Car Pages.
Spokesperson for Comma Mike Bewsey commented: "Hitting a spanner or putting too much weight on it could result in you damaging your car, your tools, or even yourself."
Road safety group GEM Motoring Assist recently stated that careless parking can also result in damage to vehicles and in turn the need to make car insurance claims.
