Car owners cautioned following mini crime wave
Posted :28-11-2007
Consumers have been warned to be extra vigilant after a number of break-ins took place on a popular brand of car.
A total of six Fiat Puntos across Manchester have had their steering columns and driving wheels removed over a 12-day period.
The crimes have resulted in motorists not being able to drive their cars but also with a financial burden to bear, as the parts cost over £500 to replace, reports the Northwich Guardian.
Comprehensive car insurance could help with bills that arise from car crime.
Keith Thomas, crime reduction manager from Greater Manchester police's partnership support team, comments: "These thieves must be stealing the steering columns and wheels to order.
"If any member of the public has any information that could identify the culprits please contact the police immediately."
The Preston Reporter stated recently that more than 1,400 careless drivers received warning letters from the police after being spotted leaving valuable items on display in their cars, a habit which could result in break-ins and in turn the need to make car insurance claims.
