Nissan teaches youngsters perils of car crime
Posted :29-11-2007
A course designed to reduce incidences of car crime is being run by car manufacturer Nissan, it has been announced.
The firm explains that the scheme aims to keep young offenders at a Lancaster institution on the straight and narrow after their time.
Inmates are being offered basic training in vehicle maintenance as well as education about the costs and effects of car crime to make them more aware of the effects of their offending behaviour.
It may be the course reduces the likelihood of such misdemeanours occurring in the future and in turn lowers the likelihood of car insurance claims having to be made by consumers who have their vehicles broken into.
The course has achieved accreditation from the Open College Network and has been developed with assistance from bodies including the police, the UK Ambulance service and the Fire & Rescue service.
Home Office statistics indicate that there has been a drop of 51 per cent in vehicle crime in the last ten years.
