Car thieves' top Christmas steals noted
Posted :10-12-2007
Greater Manchester police have released a list of the most popular items stolen from cars in an attempt to get consumers to be more vigilant, which could reduce the risk of needing to make a car insurance claim.
The data in the study is based on the top ten items to be taken from vehicles in Oldham last December.
In at number on is the car number plate, closely followed by mobile phones and in joint third place are CD players and clothing.
Chief superintendent Caroline Bell comments: "Leaving items like mobile phones, satellite navigation systems and even clothing on display, makes your car heaven for thieves. Remove all valuables from your car and leave your glove compartment open if it's empty."
Elsewhere in the city, the Northwich Guardian recently reported that consumers were warned to be extra vigilant with their vehicles after six Fiat Puntos were broken into over a 12-day period.
