Anti-social drivers 'targeted by police'
Posted :12-12-2007
Reckless motorists were subject to fines and official warnings, both of which could result in higher car insurance premiums, after an operation to combat concerns over poor driving standards.
North Yorkshire Police partnered the Vehicle Operators and Standards Agency (Vosa) to clamp down on poorly maintained vehicles and bad driving.
Around 35 vehicles were stopped by officers and taken to Bedale Railway station car park, where a thorough examination was carried out by Vosa staff.
A total of 30 fines were handed out for road traffic offences and 13 immediate prohibitions were imposed to prevent defective vehicles from being driven on roads.
Road Policing Officer Tony Call commented: "The operation was a great success and reinforces the message that poor driving standards and anti-social driving, along with defective vehicles, will not be tolerated."
In related news, several hundred motorists were caught flouting road laws in a recent operation carried out by Devon and Cornwall Constabulary.
