Drink-drivers face pub ban
Posted :13-12-2007
Those caught drink-driving may not only face fines and raised car insurance premiums, but may also be banned from pubs in the north-east, it has been reported.
A scheme run by Staffordshire police and Newcastle borough council will see the 24 pubs in the town centre issued with photos of motorists found guilty of driving while under the influence of alcohol.
Councillor Phil Maskery told the Morning Advertiser that the majority of road users behave responsibly with regard to alcohol and driving.
"However, there are still people who believe it is acceptable to drink and then get behind the wheel," he added.
Motorists who are caught over the limit may face a lifetime ban from the pubs as well as more expensive car insurance premiums.
The current limit for alcohol is 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, or 80 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.
