Motorists 'getting car-ried away '
Posted :13-12-2007
More than a quarter of British motorists have admitted to getting intimate with their cars, according to a survey by What Car?.
The study by the site also suggests that a third of road users give their car a name.
Motorists in Northern Ireland are the most likely to do so, with 43 per cent referring to their vehicle by a moniker.
Furthermore, some 60 per cent of drivers admit to talking to their automobiles.
Psychologist Christina Gaitanou from London Metropolitan University comments that it is not unusual for individuals to talk to inanimate objects, especially if they have been named.
"The act of talking to a car reflects that a relationship exists between a person and their car. This behaviour shows how people can become attached to objects that they possess," she concludes.
Consumers wishing to take care of their loved cars may find that car insurance provides adequate cover for their four-wheeled friends.
In recent days, Greater Manchester police revealed the most popular item stolen from cars over the Christmas period are licence plates.
