Insurance customers 'to get a better deal in 2008'
Posted :18-12-2007
Consumers are set to benefit from new guidelines from the Financial Services Authority (FSA) in the new year, according to Consumer Intelligence.
The organisation explains that regulations due to come into force from January 6th intend to make it clearer for individuals to be able to tell which deal is best for them.
Firms advertising products such as home or car insurance will only be able to feature products and benefits that will be relevant to the average customer who sees the adverts, unless they give details of what percentage of people it will apply to.
Managing director of Consumer Intelligence Ian Hughes comments: "These changes are extremely important because the industry has suffered from so much 'smoke and mirrors' behaviour in the past."
Consumer Intelligence is an independent advertising analyst company which has been tracking car insurance prices since 2004 and carries out monthly consumer interviews to find out what they believe key issues in the market are.
