Precautions 'can avoid winter car insurance claims'
Posted :19-12-2007
Drivers can avoid having to make a car insurance claim over the Christmas period by making sure they are prepared, according to the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba).
The fact that ice and moisture on the roads, combined with darker driving conditions, can make the roads more treacherous should not be ignored, explains Graeme Trudgill, technical and corporate affairs executive at Biba.
"It's the sensible precautions at this time of year - make sure you're ready, make sure your car's ready so if something does happen then you'll be prepared," he states.
Advice from the association includes ensuring that tyre treads are of the correct legal depth and that anti-freeze is used to make their vehicle winter-worthy.
Furthermore, drivers may benefit from having their car insurance documentation and a mobile phone with them in their car, Mr Trudgill concludes.
The AA reports that December 27th and January 2nd are expected to be the busiest days for breakdowns over the festive period.
