Santa 'a nightmare car insurance customer'
Posted :20-12-2007
With a huge amount of mileage and high driving speeds, combined with the liking for an alcoholic beverage or two over the festive period, Santa would have to pay an "astronomical" car insurance premium.
According to elephant.co.uk, Father Christmas would have to travel at an average speed of 2,700 mph to cover the 64,000 miles around the world, as the crow flies, required of him in one night.
Travelling at such speed could well result in a driving ban, if Santa were to be caught.
Managing director of the firm Brian Martin comments that the underwriters would have a difficult time working out the insurance group for Mr Claus's sleigh.
He ponders: "They're used to rating vehicles by the horsepower of their engines, but where does a sleigh with twelve reindeer power fit in?"
In related news, the British Insurance Brokers' Association recently advised road users to take extra care when travelling over the festive period.
