Car insurance 'needs extending for international driving'
Posted :27-12-2007
The car insurance provider More Than has confirmed that drivers will need to extend their motor insurance if they are intending to take their car abroad.
Account manager Keith Maxwell highlighted that UK motorists often do not receive the same level of cover when they drive their cars in foreign countries.
In particular, he indicated that drivers who did not take out a foreign use extension would find that they were only covered for road traffic accident cover.
Mr Maxwell went on to advise motorists who already had comprehensive cover and were looking to have the same policy abroad.
"They need to phone up their insurer and the insurer will issue what's known as a foreign use extension," he outlined.
Mr Maxwell also indicated that the further away motorists took their cars, the more expensive car insurance policies would become.
The Association of British Insurers estimates that each year over two million UK motorists take their cars abroad.
