Residential speeding anxieties raised
Posted :03-01-2008
Concerns have been raised over motorists speeding in suburban areas, which may risk car insurance claims as well as the health and even the lives of local residents.
An occupier of Avenue Road in Scarborough contacted the Scarborough Evening News after seeing a domestic cat killed by a speeding road user.
The woman, who did not wish to be named, told the publication: "I have nearly been knocked over twice when coming out of my property. I have seen speeding drivers mount the pavement before when another vehicle is coming the other way."
She added that all the residents are worried about the speeding as well as the volume of cars that use the road.
John Riby, Scarborough council's head of engineering and harbour services, stated that speeds on the road will be monitored to determine whether there is a problem.
The UK speed limit for built up areas is 30 miles per hour.
