Advice given to avoid winter car insurance claims
Posted :03-01-2008
With forecasts predicting sub-zero temperatures, North Yorkshire police driving instructor Dave Goudie offers some advice for road users wishing to stay safe and avoid potentially costly car insurance claims.
He states that if roads are snowy or icy and a journey is not really necessary, do not make it.
Nevertheless, if motorists have to take to the roads, then they should make certain that their vehicles are up to the job, by ensuring that the windscreen is clear of snow and ice and that the wiper blades are kept clean.
Mr Goudie also states that proper de-icer fluid should be in the screenwash bottle to guarantee that clearing the windscreen is as easy as possible.
He also advises drivers to have a clean and dry cloth in the car, in case they have to clean the screen or windows by hand.
Mr Goudie concludes that it does not matter if a driver is late to an engagement, as long as they stay safe.
"On treacherous roads it is literally a case of better late than never," he finishes.
In related news, the British Insurance Brokers' Association recently stated that icy roads and darker driving conditions can make using the roads more hazardous.
