Car insurance customers warned of 'frosting' dangers
Posted :31-01-2008
Motorists have been warned to be aware of the potential dangers of 'frosting', where opportunistic car thieves take advantage of cars left unattended while the engine warms up.
Car insurance manager at Sainsbury's Bank Joanne Mallon comments: "When it's freezing out it can be tempting to leave the engine running to speed up the defrosting process while you nip back inside to finish getting ready."
She adds that the consequences of leaving a vehicle warming up can be "terrible" and that road users may find that they are uninsured against such crimes.
Other advice from the financial services provider includes ensuring that a car has a winter service, that they have antifreeze and checking tyre conditions for both tread depth and pressure.
In related news, the Royal Bank of Scotland and Green Flag recently advised consumers to take extra care while driving on icy roads, which could reduce the likelihood of car insurance claims.
