'Shop around' for the best car insurance deals

Young drivers should shop around for their car insurance to ensure they get the best deal possible, according to the Association of British Insurers (ABI).

Malcolm Tarling, a spokesperson for the organisation, stated today that a number of lenders feel that they are unable to provide cover for younger drivers and as such have stopped offering car insurance policies to such road users.

He explained that this was because adolescent motorists are much more likely to be involved in an accident while behind the wheel and as such the chances of them making a claim on their policy are higher.

"And the claims cost a lot - I have never seen anything more expensive," Mr Tarling adds.

Concluding, he stated that consumers should shop around as some companies are more competitive than others and may be able to provide a better deal on cover.

According to road safety charity Brake, young drivers have a higher probability of being involved in a car accident than their older counterparts.
