Car insurance 'most important cover'

Anyone with a car is required to have motor insurance, the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba) has reminded consumers.

Technical and corporate affairs executive at Biba Graeme Trudgill stated in recent days that if road users have a vehicle then having a policy in place is a legal requirement.

After that, home insurance is the second most important type of cover, he added.

Mr Trudgill added: "Home insurance is absolutely the second most important insurance you can buy."

He concluded that cover for a property is also important, as if a consumer has a mortgage then there will be a contract between the individual and the provider which in most cases states that the consumer has to have buildings cover or be in breach of the agreement.

In related news, recent research by the Association of British Insurers stated that during the course of 2006 the insurance sector paid out a total of £9 million to consumers as a result of property damage or loss of possessions.
