Car insurance costs 'could fall for young drivers'
Posted :15-02-2008
Car insurance premiums could be set to fall among younger drivers if a new government plan to reduce the number of accidents they are involved in proves successful. Research by Norwich Union found recently that the number of accidents involving people aged under 23 in the UK has increased dramatically in recent years and as a result their car insurance premiums have risen as well. But the Department for Transport is hoping that a new and tougher driver testing criteria will reduce the number of road accidents among young motorists and subsequently their car insurance fees. "Insurers tell us they have to treat all young people as high risk because there is no way of distinguishing the safe ones," transport minister Jim Fitzpatrick is quoted saying by the Insurance Times. "We want to work with employers and insurers to get the training right," he added. The British Insurance Brokers' Association recently reminded consumers around the country that if they own a car they are obliged to make sure they have an appropriate insurance policy.
