TyreSafe launches March road safety scheme
Posted :19-02-2008
Car drivers may find that the highways are a safer place following a warning to motorcyclists from road safety charity TyreSafe.
The organisation is launching a campaign which will run throughout March to underscore the dangers of badly-worn tyres on scooters and motorcycles.
Support for the event has been secured from BikeSafe, the UK police's road safety campaign and TyreSafe hopes to receive backing from trade associations within the motorcycle industry.
The organisation explains that the impact of congestion, hikes in fuel prices and increased awareness of CO2 emissions have boosted sales of bikes and scooters which has in turn led to an increased number of accidents and potentially costly bike and car insurance claims.
In related news, the Department for Transport recently stated that it hopes that new and tougher driving test criteria will reduce the number of road traffic accidents among younger drivers, which could subsequently lower car insurance costs.
