Caravan site makes way for mining ? Campervan insurance
Posted :01-10-2008
A caravan park has been closed after attempts were unsuccessful to prevent a company moving in to extract gravel from the site, it has been reported.
The Lee Valley Caravan Park in Dobbs Weir gave visitors the chance to enjoy the beauty spot on the River Lee, the Hertfordshire Mercury reports, in news that may interest campervan insurance holders.
Plans are already in place for construction company Lafarge to mine the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority (LVRPA) land for minerals.
Dobbs Weir Residents Association spokesman Mark Pyatt said he is angry the caravan park has been shut down by the LVRPA with nothing to replace it.
"All the plans and ideas should be thrashed out before it is closed down. It's a complete misappropriation of public assets," he added.
Plans are in place for the site to reopen to the public in 2016 when it will be transformed into a wildlife sanctuary primarily for voles.
The Blackpool Gazette recently reported a caravan park in Blackpool had a ten per cent increase in visitors over the last 12 months.
