Caravans more at risk in quiet season ? Campervan insurance
Posted :07-10-2008
Police are urging people who own caravans which they only visit in the summer not to leave their second home vulnerable to theft when they leave, it has been reported.
In news that may interest holders of campervan insurance, coastal resorts and caravan sites are getting quieter so criminals may strike, according to the Coleraine Times.
With dark evenings and fewer people about, thieves see the opportunity to remove possessions people have left behind in their caravans.
Detective chief inspector Rachel Shields told the source they want to stop criminals from profiting from their illegal activities.
"But to succeed we need the support and assistance of those who own caravans. We are urging people to take their valuables home with them," she added.
Detective chief inspector Shields also advised people to security mark any items that could not be removed from the caravan and to leave curtains open to help those on patrol, the source says.
In related news, a couple had their £15,000 caravan stolen from their driveway but had failed to renew their insurance, the Peterborough Evening Telegraph reported.
