Less space for touring caravans in Scotland - Motorhome insurance
Posted :08-10-2008
A caravan site is planning to install 30 static caravans which will reduce the space available for those wanting to tour and stay for the short term.
In news that may be of interest to motorhome insurance holders, the park at Findhorn Sands in Moray has applied to change its use from touring to static caravans.
The plans have been met with many objections, including worries that tourism will be affected by the absence of holidaymakers with tents and caravans.
Elgin North councillor John Russell said it is potentially worrying Moray would have an inadequate number of touring caravan sites if the application is approved.
"There seems to be little basis on which we could refuse approval. Not only Findhorn but other places in Moray are under-supplied with touring caravan sites," he added.
Councillors rejected a call for a hearing into the matter based on the number of objections placed and approved the plans for the static caravans.
In recent caravanning news, a site near Inverness is facing legal action for carrying out work to build permanent homes after the council ordered them to stop.
