Council defends decision to reject plans ? Motorhome insurance
Posted :09-10-2008
A council has stood by its plans to reject proposals for new static caravans at a holiday park in Dorset.
Weymouth and Portland borough council refused a planning application from Waterside Holiday Park to build 45 new statics on land adjacent to its site, reports the Dorset Echo.
In news which may interest people with motorhome insurance, a representative for the park said extra static caravans would extend the tourist season and see more money coming in alongside the business from touring caravan owners.
A public enquiry is currently underway regarding an appeal for Waterside.
Mathew Page, from the council, told the newspaper that "caravan sites" are important for "the local tourist industry".
"But new or additional areas for caravans, particularly static caravans, must be confined to suitable locations," he added.
The Caravan Club recently claimed that out of season caravan holidays are becoming a popular holiday choice for tourists in the UK.
