Cheap insurance on horizon for small cars
Posted :26-11-2004
A new report has revealed that the UK's small cars are getting much safer, paving the way for cheaper insurance premiums.
The European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) has revealed that a number of Europe's small cars are getting much safer for their occupants, with the Renault Modus becoming the first car classed as a "supermini" to receive the coveted five-star rating for occupant protection.
Other small cars, including the Citro n C4 and Seat Altea, also made the five-star grade and as such it is thought likely that insurance premiums could be reduced to reflect the safety they provide.
Euro NCAP Chairman Claes Tingvall said he was pleased with the results: "Manufacturers have realised that the occupants of smaller vehicles demand optimum safety standards."
He added: "It is not merely a right reserved for those that can afford executive vehicles."
