New cars "need new insurance"

A new report has issued advice to new car owners cautioning them against being slack over their insurance cover.
Many new owners will often believe that their new cars are much safer than older models, but the study suggests that the newer makes are in fact just as easy to break into.
Experts who investigated car security found that they could break into 80 per cent of new vehicles without causing any physical damage to them.
Simple household tools were used to break into the cars, suggesting that security features are not any better today than they were many years ago.
This study puts to rest the theory that new cars should come with lower premiums, as their security is more difficult to breach.
What Car? Magazine, which conducted the study, found that cars at the cheaper end of the scale who among the worst offenders, including the Kia Picanto and the Fiat Panda Dynamic.
Last year, 1.3 million car thefts occurred, 12 per cent less than the previous year.
