Motorists urged to take extra-care in winter weather
Posted :18-01-2005
Motorists are being advised to take extra precautions while driving with further freezing conditions forecast.
Motoring assistance firms are expecting an influx of calls for help to accompany the adverse conditions and are thus advising motorists to be especially prudent while driving.
"Recent snow and ice, together with the freezing weather forecast for the weekend, could make driving conditions treacherous for motorists, particularly on rural roads which don't get gritted," said Green Flag spokesperson Melanie Denny.
There are a range of measures which motorists are being advised to take to avoid running into trouble, including carrying de-icer and ice scrapers in their cars; to ensure that lights, brakes and batteries are working correctly and to check the pressure and general condition of tyres.
The North West of England and Scotland are expected to be most affected by the weather, although sub-zero temperatures are forecast across the UK this weekend.
