Young motorists urged to shop around
Posted :21-02-2005
Young motorists are being advised to shop around for their car insurance, especially when potentially faced by high premiums.
The Independent reports that according to the AA's insurance index a 17-year-old female driver can expect to pay an annual £3,072 for insurance while male drivers may have to part with £4,521.
Premiums for young motorists are relatively high as they are viewed as being high risk. Although only one in six UK motorists are between the ages of 17 and 21, this age group is involved in a quarter of all accidents, according to the AA.
However, young drivers can save on their policies. By taking a Pass Plus course, which involves six hours of driving in varied conditions and on motorways, young motorists can save up to 30 per cent on their policies.
All individuals seeking insurance, and young motorists in particular, are advised to shop around for insurance collecting at least five or six different quotes, with the insurance market remaining competitive.
Motorists are also advised that by providing detailed information to insurers, such as accurate mileage figures, they could save on their policies.
