Motorists urged to seek car insurance savings
Posted :31-03-2005
Drivers with penalty points on their driving license are advised to shop around for car insurance as insurers have varying policies concerning the impact of points on premiums.
According to the A&A Group, points on a license can lead to a 25 per cent hike in the cost of a car insurance policy.
However FemaleFirst.co.uk reports that while some insurers calculate policy price increases based on points, others consider the severity of offences, as penalty points are imposed on drivers for a wide-range of offences including causing death by dangerous driving and using an unsuitable vehicle.
"There are a whole host of offences that attract penalty points," said A&A chief executive Tony Allen.
"All attract points from two to 11 per offence according to how serious it is considered, but it is unfair for brokers to treat a driver with two small offences as they would a driver with a single more serious conviction if the result is that both have the same number of points on their licence."
A recent study by Sainsbury's Car Insurance found that the average motorist could save 32 per cent on the average price of their premium by shopping around for cover.
