Motorists advised to update insurers
Posted :01-06-2005
Motorists have being urged to inform insurers of any changes to the personal details to help them ensure they do not invalidate their cover and to aid police and the insurance industry with their clampdown on uninsured drivers.
Norwich Union is launching a campaign to make consumers and drivers increasingly aware of factors that can lead to insurers refusing to pay out on claims.
Drivers are advised to keep insurers informed of any changes to their personal circumstances and details, such as changes to address and especially when it will affect where the car is parked.
Changes to health, occupation and driving convictions can also all impact upon premiums.
Insurers are also urging motorists to inform them of any changes to their personal situation to help keep the Motor Insurers Database (MID) current.
"Motorists can play an important role in reducing the cost of uninsured drivers by making sure their details are fully up to date with their insurer or broker - thereby helping them reduce the burden that uninsured motorists place on their own premium every year," said Jim Noakes of Norwich Union.
"Additionally, motorists need to make certain that their insurance cover is the right level for them. By better understanding their policy, they will be able to make sure they won't get caught without adequate cover."
Uninsured drivers are costing honest motorists and the insurance industry millions of pounds each year and the MID is a key tool with which to eradicate this problem.
