Motorists reminded to scour UK market for cheap car insurance
Posted :20-06-2005
Drivers have been reminded to check the fine print of premiums and to take time to search the market for car insurance.
Consumers are advised not to automatically renew insurance policies and to get a number of different quotes to ensure they get the best cover at the cheapest price.
Marks & Spencer Money has entered the car insurance debate, warning motorists that policies are often different and that some insurers do not provide a replacement car in instances of a vehicle being stolen or out of use.
Peter Longstaff of Marks & Spencer Money urged Britons to shop around for car insurance, stating: "Many people buy the cheapest possible insurance just to be legal, without fully considering how they'd commute to work if their car was off the road.
"The reality is that most insurers will include a courtesy car as standard, but only if the repair workshop has one spare an if your car is damaged through the fault of someone else.
"If you've caused the damage, or if they don't have a car free, then I'm afraid you're quite likely to be looking at a period of drawn out commuting."
A recent study found that Britons are spending £1.2 billion too much on car insurance by failing to shop around for cover.
