A government-led road safety initiative is targeting so-called white-van men in a move that could impact on commercial vehicle insurance premiums.
Part of the Department for Transport's Think! road safety campaign, the new project - which launches today - targets this commercial vehicle group in a bid to reduce stress and distractions and reduce road deaths.
It will focus on removing hazards that van drivers face, including answering mobile phones while driving, stress and fatigue.
Furthermore, both drivers and bosses will be encouraged to make better journey plans in order to reduce speeding.
"I used to drive for work myself and I know the pressures. Tough deadlines can push you over the speed limit, and distractions like the boss calling you on your mobile can take your attention off the road," commented Dr Stephen Ladyman, road safety minister.
Dr Ladyman also noted that in the region of 200 fatalities and serious injuries involving somebody at work happen on UK roads each week.
