Simplification called for "complex" smoking rules

A clearer definition of the different and "complex" rules related to in-car smoking has been called for by the ACFO, an organisation representing fleet operators.
The news, which may be of interest to those looking for commercial vehicle or van insurance, follows the phased roll-out of anti-smoking laws passed in Scotland 16 months ago and the rest of the UK this year.
Each country, the ACFO maintained, includes different regulations regarding where drivers cannot smoke and what signage is necessary to communicate this information.
"Due to this confusion many ACFO members have introduced a blanket ban on smoking in all employer-controlled vehicles," said ACFO chairman Julie Jenner.
"While this is the safest solution in terms of compliance with all the different rules, it is not always the desired solution," she added.
In related news, the organisation recently said it was "pleased" to contribute towards a new drink-drive campaign initiated by the Department for Transport's Think! campaign.
