Consumers warned against unlicensed cabs

Insurers are warning consumers to make sure that they only use licensed taxis this Christmas.
Taxis are likely to be highly sought after over the Christmas period, yet passengers are being warned that they will not be covered by insurance when travelling in unlicensed vehicles.
The taxicabs may also not be deemed roadworthy as they will not have passed a taxi safety test.
However, few customers are aware that getting into an unlicensed cab means that they will not be covered by insurance should they be involved in an accident, leaving them with potentially huge fees.
Andy Lewis, Chief Housing and Public Protection Officer at Wrexham council provided advice to consumers
"Know what you're getting into before getting into a taxi. Make sure the vehicle is properly licensed by checking it has front and rear plates and ask to see the driver's identification badge," he said.
